Established in 1998, the Vietnam Association for the Protection of Nature and Environment (VANE) is the "convergence" of leading scientists in natural resources and environment across the country. As a result, the Association has been doing well its function of propagating, educating, raising awareness and disseminating knowledge about environmental protection among the people; contribute to bringing the content of nature and environment protection into the curricula in schools, fighting against all acts of violating the laws and regulations on the protection of the natural environment.
VANE has made many positive contributions through activities of scientific research, technology transfer, technical consulting, scientific criticism, propaganda and building sustainable production models.
Dr. Nguyen Trong Sinh, Chairman of VANE shared his concern on how to promote the synergy of the community to protect natural resources and the environment for sustainable development of the country in the context of climate change.
“To do this, we must first develop a strategy to mobilize the synergy of the community to protect resources and the environment for sustainable development in the context of climate change. For enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises, it is very necessary to transfer technology to improve productivity, product quality and reduce environmental pollution. At the same time, evaluate and rank the efforts of environmentally-friendly and health-safe businesses, launch an emulation movement among businesses in biodiversity conservation, economical use of resources and environmental protection. sustainable development school”, Dr. Nguyen Trong Sinh expressed.

Appreciating VANE's efforts in protecting nature and the environment, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam emphasized that the current development requirements must be faster but also ensure sustainability and environmental protection. If only for the immediate development goal without paying attention to the environment, it will take a lot of time and cost to overcome.
According to some calculations by scientists, currently the cost to overcome environmental problems is about 2-3% GDP. And if there are no major changes, if Vietnam's economy increases by 1% GDP, the cost of remediation and environmental protection can be equivalent to 3% GDP. Meanwhile, research in many developed countries shows that if we don't care about environmental issues, it's time to overcome the consequences that can be many tens of percent of GDP, decades.
“Many places are destroying mountains, clearing forests, filling ponds and lakes. Many rural areas no longer have the sound of frogs croaking, the fields no longer have crabs and fishes due to the heavy use of chemicals. Rivers cry for help. These are profound lessons to be learned. But dealing with environmental problems cannot be too extreme, not allowing factories to be built, but how to make factories fully and seriously comply with regulations on waste treatment, quality assurance before discharge. to the environment. Environmental protection must become a corporate culture," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
However, environmental protection activities are not only related to enterprises and business households but also to each individual in daily life. Right from the story of sorting household waste for recycling or limiting the use of plastic bags, it saves a lot of money for the economy.
“The problem is how to mobilize power from the community, have a mechanism for businesses, and mobilize the masses to participate strongly in environmental protection movements. To do this, it is necessary to join hands from the Government, ministries, authorities at all levels to businesses and communities, especially the pervasive role of associations and mass organizations," said the Deputy Prime Minister.
