On the morning of October 8, high tide broke the dyke covering Khuong dune, Cai Khe ward, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city. Water from Hau River rushed in, flooding many houses and fruit trees of dozens of households. Many people had to flee.
“The water came rushing in, and in almost an hour it flooded all the houses; nearly a ton of fish in the pond about to be harvested is lost; A flock of 100 chickens and ducks without shelter must be brought to the street and locked up and then sold out," said Mr. Bui Van Day.
As for Mr. Bui Van Hen, he was worried because nearly 100 mango trees of Hoa Loc sand were submerged under water. "Water like this in a few days will drop all the fruit, the tree will die or not grow," Mr. Hen said.
People said that a few days ago, the dyke was reinforced, but the flood water and high tide caused the dyke to break. Currently, the local government mobilizes forces to assist people in moving their belongings and pets to a safe place; and also troubleshoot.

In the past two days, high tide also broke many dikes in islet communes on Tien and Co Chien rivers, Vinh Long province, submerged hundreds of hectares of orchards, and nearly 10 tons of people's farmed fish escaped. .
According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, on October 8, the peak of high tide on the Tien River in My Thuan reached 2 m; Hau river in Can Tho is 2.17 m, respectively exceeding alarm 3 from 0.2 to 0.27 m. High tide is forecasted to continue in the next 2-3 days, all exceeding alarm 3. This is the highest tide of the year.
